Toy Storage Renovation with The Container Store

I started to notice that Charlie would not spend any time in his room, and would in fact, haul every single one of his toys from his room to the living room, where he would create a very similar path of destruction as a tornado. I then found myself, trying to fix the toy in the living room problem, by buying baskets to store the toys in the living room in. None the less, he continued to not play in his room, and continued to make the family room, his personal mess.

I then had an “ah ha” moment. Why should I not re-do his room? I needed to renovate the toy storage situation and make his room more organized and kid friendly so that he would WANT to be in his room. I also had an alternative motive, I wanted my living room back so I could watch movies without stepping on legos and hot wheels every time I  left the couch.

We teamed up with The Container Store for a complete toy storage, kids room renovation.

Before:

Okay so before you say “that isn’t bad”… be aware that all the toys and blankets and stuffed animals are under the bed (hidden) or behind me in a million different toy baskets!

After:

So first things first, I wanted toy storage that HID the toys. Because lets be honest, if you have baskets, or shelving, you can still see the mess (regardless if you try and re-organize on a daily basis). So the first thing we picked out filing cabinets. Yes…filing cabinets. The Bisley filing cabinets work as a perfect toy storage for hot wheels and legos and all those other little toys you find yourself stepping on in the middle of the night. I love the “tool box” feel they added to the room.

Now onto the rest of the room. Next up… MORE STORAGE.

Before:

Embarrassingly enough I had about 10 different baskets all filled with toys… Not sure how Charlie ever found anything!!

After:I decided to create a reading/toy nook that was basically an all in one stop!

Here are the before:

Below you’ll find the after:

The Light Grey Poppin Box Bench from the Container Store was perfect for both functionality and design. Yes, this seat below that Charlie is sitting on is a storage disguised as extra seating! It’s perfect for a reading nook (which is what we used it as) or even suits perfect for the end of the bed. It also supports up to 275 lbs. And if you decide you want to put it away, it easily folds up and can be stored under a bed.

And to perfectly accompany the box bench, we choose a couple of the Light Grey Poppin Box Seats.  We used these as blanket storage and additional toy storage. These small box seats are strong enough to accommodate up to 275 pounds. And they collapse flat as well!

We also got some of the Bisley filing cabinets in red. Charlie is super into Cars and these remind me so much of tool boxes. They add the perfect touch to a little boys room. These are actually 2 Bisley products (just stacked). The smaller Bisley filing cabinet can be found here. They have tons of different colors too!

**These are two Bisley cabinets stacked. Please make sure to secure cabinets to wall and to one another to avoid any injury!**
